High strength barrier nylon-MXD6

  Nylon MXD6 is a special high barrier nylon material. Although MXD6 is slightly less barrier than PVDC and EVOH, its barrier is not affected by temperature and humidity, which is especially suitable for high temperature and humidity occasions. In the current trend of barrier packaging and replacing steel with plastics, nylon MXD6 has become one of the attractive new plastics varieties.                  Structural properties PAMXD6 nylon has high strength, high rigidity, high thermal deformation temperature, small thermal expansion coefficient and good dimensional stability.           

  It has low water absorption, small size change and little mechanical strength change after water absorption, small shrinkage, suitable for precision forming, excellent coating performance, especially for surface coating at high temperature, and excellent barrier to oxygen, carbon dioxide and other gases. Excellent mechanical and thermal properties, high strength, high modulus and heat resistance, high barrier, excellent cooking resistance          

  (1) The general performance of MXD6 is a crystalline aromatic nylon. Compared with other nylons, MXD6 has lower water absorption and smaller size change after water absorption. The forming shrinkage rate is low, and it is suitable for the processing of precision products.           

 (2) Mechanical and thermal properties MXD6 has excellent mechanical and thermal properties. Its mechanical strength and thermal deformation temperature are high, and its linear expansion coefficient is small. After fiberglass reinforcement, the mechanical properties can be greatly improved. Mechanical properties are less affected by temperature, and can maintain high strength and rigidity in a wide temperature range. Mechanical properties are also less affected by humidity than other nylons.           

  (3) The permeability coefficient of MXD6 to O2 is 2-5 (cm3), to CO2 is 28 (cm3), and to hydrogen peroxide is 15-30 (g).            At room temperature and low relative humidity, MXD6's barrier performance is not as good as EVOH and PVDC's, but with the increase of temperature and humidity, its barrier performance decreases less quickly than EVOH and PVDC's, that is, MXD6's barrier performance is close to them at high temperature and humidity.          

   Because MXD6 and PET are very close in melting point, glass transition temperature and other thermal properties, they are easy to form alloys. MXD6 contains 10% in PET, and its barrier property is twice as high as that of pure PET single-layer bottle. When MXD6 is combined with PET to produce carbonated beverage bottle, when MXD6 is 6% of the total thickness, the storage time of 85% carbonated gas is 245 days, while that of pure PET bottle is only 84 days.          

   Typical application scope        

    It can be used as engineering plastics to make automobile shell, car body, girder and chassis, as well as packaging materials for precision instruments, instruments, pharmaceutical and chemical industries, to produce moisture-proof, shock-absorbing cushions and foamed sheets, etc.
